Obituary for Mildred "Mindy" Kaneff

Kaneff Mildred (nee Rosenberg), also known as Mindy Kay, died on Thursday at her home in Ventnor. Mindy was predeceased by her husband, Marvin and brother, Louis Rosenberg. She is the mother of Amy (Gregary) Lansman and Scott (Judith) Kaneff; grandmother to Mark (Amanda) Lansman and Michael Kaneff; honorary grandmother to Molly, Harrison and Hannah Rothenberg McGuire. She is also survived by her brothers, Sid (Lorie) Rosenberg and Phillip (Sybil) Rosenberg; her devoted “sister”, caretaker Rebecca Mitchell Worrell as well as many caring friends. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she attended Temple University and moved to the Jersey shore soon after marrying Marvin. Together they started Kay Building Company in 1955, She transitioned seamlessly into the role of President following her husband’s untimely death in 1973. In 1974, she donated a building in West Atlantic City to the Family Service Association of Atlantic County in his memory. She was considered a trailblazer for women in building and construction. As a testament to her success, she held an officers position in the South Jersey Building Association. Mindy was co-creator of the “Call Kay Today” jingle and many of the newspaper print ads, “if I had a hammer…..Call Kay Today”. Mindy was active in many local charities and non-profits including Cong. Beth Judah, The Noyes Museum, St. Leonard’s Tract Association and MANNA. Known for impeccable style and grace, she was an avid antiques collector and aficionado. Her home was her haven and was featured on tour for the Antiques Club of Atlantic County. Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services Sunday, June 3rd, at 12noon, at Shirat Hayam, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ventnor NJ. Interment will follow at Beth Kehillah Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be graciously accepted by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, https://www.mda.org/ or United Liberia Outreach, www.unitedliberiaoutreach.org.
