Obituary for Leslie Trackman

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, Leslie Trackman of Egg Harbor Twp., formerly of Margate City, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89. He was born on Bastille Day, he would boast, on July 14, 1933. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother. Born and raised in Verona, NJ, he was the son of the late William and Edith Trackman. He will be dearly missed by his sons Marty (Brenda) and Bill, daughter Sharon (Sanford), 8 grandkids and 4 great grandkids. Les was predeceased by his brother Jay and beloved wife, Phyllis, of 50 years.

Les spent his childhood growing up during the latter years of the Great Depression. He loved sharing stories that always included how their family didn’t have money for the trolley, so he rode his bike down the big hill to play ball with friends in the park and the ride back home was always an uphill battle. As a teen, he worked in the family’s Bloomfield Delicatessen and was a soda jerk in the local ice cream shop on weekends to earn extra money to spend a day in NY with his buddies.

Les studied at Rutgers University where he loved math and anything with numbers. He served his country as Army Supply Sergeant stationed for 19 months in the Austrian Alps at the end of the Korean War. He worked as a photographic film and equipment sales rep for Recognition Systems Inc. until his retirement in 1995. He met the love of his life, Phyllis, and they married in 1968. Together, they traveled the world exploring nearly every country and continent, always collecting a Monopoly board game to bring home for their huge collection from around the world. They also loved the theater and traveled twice monthly to see off-Broadway shows with friends. When traveling the world became more challenging, they opted for River Boats and always shared stories of their travel adventures.

More than anything, Les was a devoted and loving family man, especially with his grandchildren and great grands. He had a family collage of photos spreading from wall to wall which spanned many generations for all to see who entered the house. The first and last question he always asked was “how are the kids doing?!” Les had a kind and giant heart and taught his family the meaning of true acts of kindness to all, showing that an “open door policy” in the house included everyone, and all were always welcome.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, July 29, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Shiva open house until 3:00 pm at the home of his son, Marty Trackman: 140 Treetop Lane, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ 08234.

Memorial donations in honor of Les may be made to The Alcove Center for Grieving Children & Families, 319 E. Jimmie Leeds Road, Suite 205, Galloway, NJ 08205 or the Community Food Bank of New Jersey Southern Branch, 6735 E. Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Twp., NJ 08234.
