Obituary for Howard Z Friedman

Howard Z. Friedman passed away suddenly in his Margate, NJ home on January 22, 2020 at the age of 76. He is survived by a brother Ben-Zion (Burton), a niece Debra, nephews Josh and Ben, and many cousins.

After graduating from Central High School in Philadelphia and Penn State University, Howard taught mathematics at Northeast High School until his retirement.

He was an avid skier and spent many winters in Breckinridge, Colorado as a ski instructor. He was also an expert tennis player and tennis instructor. He played guitar in a Rock & Roll band and rode his bike everywhere. Howard was a dedicated Phillies and Eagles aficionado, a proud boat owner and a deep-sea fishing enthusiast, always bringing his cleaned catch of the day home to his favorite Aunt Sarah for frying!

Howard was the USCG Auxiliary Division 8 Communications Staff Officer, participating in the monthly VHF Radio Drills using his home base station. He served as the writer, photographer and publisher of their newsletter, The Division 8 Mariner. He was a Coxswain, performing courtesy patrols and a Member Training Officer, performing a variety of tasks to train new members to qualify as Crew & Boating Safety Instructors. During his many years of service, he also held various Auxiliary level Staff positions, including Vice Flotilla Commander and Flotilla Commander.

With his dry wit, sharp sense of humor and infinite questions, he provided hours of endless entertainment for his family and many friends. Howard was a good soul with a very kind and generous heart who was devoted to his family and friends.

Family and friends are gathering at the home of his dear friends, Dave & Joyce Cherry, 500 N. Nassau Avenue, Margate, NJ at noon this Sunday, January 26, 2020.
