Obituary for George S. Busch

Saturday, June 16th, 2018, George Sidney Busch passed away at the age of 89, after a long illness, which he fought relentlessly, and he defied all odds for a long time. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marlene Busch, his children (Steve and Beth Busch, Scott Busch, and Alisa (Busch) and Andy Dankwerth) and his sister Charlotte (Busch) Mitnik. He was the beloved Big Poppy to his 6 grandchildren--Ilayna, Mason, Max, and Sam Busch, and Matthew and Ben Dankwerth. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.
George had such a big heart, and he filled it with his family and close friends. He lived by example what it means to be a person of love and integrity. He loved to have his extended family visit in his home in Atlantic City--often. Family always came first and he taught us by example and in words the importance of family and loving each other no matter what. He learned early on about sadness and responsibility when he lost his two brothers, Morrie and Sam in World War II and the Korean War. But he had an amazing capacity to be positive and resilient—and he always had jokes to tell you (and quite a few of them off-color). He was quite a practical joker too. He loved to talk about his days as a police detective working in the Crime Lab in Philadelphia—being a detective was in his blood. He also loved to talk about, and enjoy his favorite foods—knockwurst, that veggie sub with American cheese from Sacko’s--to name a few. We will miss his smile and his jokes, but his love for us all we will carry with us forever.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18th, at 1pm at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Raphael-Sacks, 6410 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia. Interment to follow at Montefiore Cemetery in Jenkintown, PA. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society AstraZeneca Hope Lodge in Cheltenham, PA at www.cancer.org/treatment/support-programs-and-services/patient-lodging/hope-lodge/philadelphia.html.
