Obituary for Elizabeth Modiano

Elizabeth Modiano, 83, passed away peacefully at her home of 60 years on February 23.

Elizabeth (Liza) was the oldest of four children that grew up in Six Mile Run Pennsylvania to Arthur and Dorothy Rankin. Liza moved to Atlantic City after graduating from Shippensburg State Teachers College. Liza and her college roommates would spend their summer breaks in Atlantic City and worked on the boardwalk. There she met this handsome young man that worked at this family’s historic Maryland Beverage Company. Liza married Dan Modiano, her husband of 61 years and were blessed with three sons Sanford, Edward, and Michael. Liza was a teacher for over 40 years in the Margate and Atlantic City school systems including over 25 years at Atlantic City High School teaching numerous subjects and coaching the Tennis Team. Liza kept busy during the summers as a Black Jack Dealer for many years at Resorts International.

During her retirement years she enjoyed getting together for her weekly Mahjong games with her fellow teachers, learning the stock market as a member of the Israeli Investment Club and cheering on her Philly Sports Teams.

There aren’t too many people that didn’t know Mrs. Mode. She was a wonderful, loving wife, and an incredible, caring mother who stressed the importance of compassion, empathy, kindness, and humor.

Liza and Dan’s happiest times were spent visiting and spending time with their children and grandchildren living in Florida and California.

Liza is survived by her husband Dan; three sons Sanford (Eileen), Edward (Claire), Michael; and her five grandchildren Albert, Kevin, Olivia, Ana and Stella.

There are no words that are adequate or could possibly express how much Liza will be missed by her family and friends.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on Sunday February 28, 2021 at Beth Kehillah Cemetery, Egg Harbor Township
