Obituary for Daniel Modiano
Daniel Modiano of Margate, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday September 23 at his home of 60 years.
Born January 14, 1934, the youngest of four siblings to Esther and Samuel Modiano. Dan was a life-long resident, attending Atlantic City schools and a graduate of Temple University. Upon graduation, Dan was a local figure in the liquor business for over 50 years operating the family liquor store Maryland Beverage Company with his sister Olga.
Dan married the love of his life, Elizabeth Rankin his wife of 60 years who pre-deceased him two years ago. What started out as a summer romance while Liza was spending her summers in Atlantic City working on the boardwalk, turned into a life time together. They moved to Margate NJ in 1962 where they had three sons Sanford, Edward, and Michael.
Dan was a simple man who stuck to routines. He was respected and deeply liked by all who met him. He was always the diplomat. A calm, positive, kind and generous man. He had the uncanny ability to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. It didn’t matter if he knew you a long time or just met for the first time. Always willing to share some wisdom or life experience.
Dan is survived by his three sons Sanford (Eileen), Edward (Claire), Michael and his five grandchildren Albert, Kevin, Olivia, Ana and Stella.
There are no words that are adequate or could possibly express how much Dan will be missed by his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday September 28, 2022 at Beth Kehillah Cemetery, 6687 Blackhorse Pike, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234.
