Obituary for Bess "Betty" Berman

Bess Berman (Udell), formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2021 at home.
Bess is predeceased by her husband Charles Berman, beloved daughter Connie Brooks, brothers David and Irvin Udell. She is survived by her loving daughter Merle Berman and best friend and sister Shirley Euster. She was a loving grandmother to her devoted grandson Ryan Hoffman (Joy). She was the great grandmother to her cherished great grandchildren Ella, Ethan, Emme and Evan Hoffman. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

Bess was the matriarch of her family and lovingly cared about all those who were close to her. Often you would see twenty people seated at her table for regular Sunday night dinners. She accomplished everything she attempted. Her ambition was born from determination and a desire to excel. From being a Girl Scout leader, graduating with a degree in social work at age 50, real estate entrepreneur and boldly launching a restaurant bar venture. Her retirement years saw her jump fearlessly into a new endeavor; she opened up a pawn shop, the Friendly Loner, and learned the business from scratch. It turned out to be a rewarding business and enjoyable enterprise.

She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched with her stories and we will never forget her.
