Obituary for Beatrice "Bea" Trautenberg
Beatrice (“Bea”) Trautenberg, 95, peacefully passed away at her Ventnor home on February 1, 2021.
Bea was born in Philadelphia on September 2, 1925 to Sally and Louis Markowitz. She was raised in Ventnor and graduated from Atlantic City High School. Beatrice married her beloved Eddie in 1946. During WWII, Bea worked as a nurse’s assistant, volunteering her time, energy, and empathy to convalescing soldiers staying at the Thomas M. England General Hospital, which occupied the repurposed Chalfonte Haddon Hall and Traymore Hotels. To lift soldiers’ spirits, she would wheel them down the boardwalk. Bea pursued a thirty-year career as a real estate broker and notary in Atlantic County. For many years she helped manage Edward’s Pharmacy in Ventnor, which she owned with her husband. Bea accomplished all of this while raising a family of five. She was dedicated to her children, serving as both girl scout and cub scout leader, as well as writing and choreographing school plays, songs, and poetry.
Along with her parents, Bea was a lifetime and founding member of Beth Judah Synagogue, now known as Shirat Hayam. She was also a lifetime member of RNS. She possessed a zest for life, travel, and long days at the shore where Rosborough Avenue meets the Atlantic. Mahjong was her game of choice.
Bea is predeceased by her husband, Edward, who passed away in October 2019 and her sister, Pearl. She is survived by her five children, Marcia (Matt) Schlossberg, Andrea (Joel) Klein, Sherrie (Robert) Myers, David Trautenberg, and Stuart (Dora) Trautenberg. To her ten grandchildren and two great-grandsons, she will always be known as “Bubbie Bea”.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 4 at 2:00 PM at the Beth Kehillah Cemetery, 6687 Black Horse Pike, Egg Harbor Township.
